American Federation of Government Employees Local 1260 Endorses Pilar Schiavo for Assembly

Chatsworth, CA -- Today, on the heels of announcing a record-setting fundraising haul of more than $120,000 in less than six weeks, Pilar Schiavo announced the endorsement of the American Federation of Government Employees TSA Local 1260 - the first time the federal union has ever endorsed a candidate for Assembly in California.

The support from AFGE Local 1260 adds to the growing support for Pilar’s campaign, which recently announced the endorsements of Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, Treasurer Fiona Ma, Board of Equalization Member Malia Cohen, Senators Maria Elena Durazo and Connie Leyva, Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez, CA Dem Party Vice Chair David Campos, National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), and United Steelworkers Local 675 (USW).

In an email to Schiavo, AFGE Local 1260 President Bobby Orozco Jr. explained why a federal employee union - one which has never before endorsed in an Assembly race in California - decided to support Schiavo, saying, “As an affiliate of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, we saw how Candidate Schiavo passionately fought for healthcare as a human right, even before it was truly popular in California. It is unorthodox, and some could argue not necessary, for a Federal employee Union to involve itself in a state district assembly race, but aside from being federal employees, we are also residents of our California communities—and we care about what happens to our families. The American Federation of Government Employees, TSA Local 1260, AFL-CIO (serving all of Southern CA Airports, from San Luis Obispo to San Diego) would be honored for the privilege of endorsing our first California state assembly candidate…we have been inspired by Candidate Schiavo and having seen her work first hand, we need no introduction to her passion, compassion, and love for humanity and community.”
